It's all about the art in Dunmanway on 12/14 August so come along to the home town of Sam Maguire, an atmospheric traditional town at the centre of West Cork to enjoy stimulating art and events and some lovely historic sites and the creative talent in West Cork. Music /Dance / Art/ Crafts/ Photography/ Theatre/ Audio visual and performance are all featured on this event rich weekend so there is something for every interest and all the family.

The event kicks off in the beautifully restored Atkins Hall, a former Methodist Chapel, on the Friday with the acclaimed actor and writer Irene Kelleher and her monologue 'Wake' in Atkins Hall - Tickets at the door so come early to avoid disappointment. The Sam Maguire Bells will be playing at St. Mary's to welcome in the weekend and there is also live music in the Shamrock Bar.

On the Saturday the action continues with waking trails and exhibitions throughout the town, live music and drama in Atkins Hall, Day long craft and food fair and demos in St. Patrick's Hall and in the Sam Maguire Plaza in the Market Square performance art with the installation of Earth by Anne O'Connor. There is "Story Time" for those aged 3 - 6 in our lovely Town Library and in the park at the town's Chapel Lake there are workshops and demos and if you have any energy left music in the Shamrock Bar later.

The events continue around town on the Sunday with the addition of Live Music in Sam Maguire Plaza including the Voices of Ukraine from 2 - 3 and in St Patrick's Hall at 3.30 the Prize Giving from all the events.

Atkins Hall was the Methodist Church which was built in 1790 and has been beautifully restored by the Atkins family as an art and music venue. John Wesley preached in Dunmanway on his three visits to West Cork from 1750 - 1762 and Methodist communities in North America in Rochester New York, Wisconsin and Percy Township, Northumberland County, Ontario were founded by emigrants from West Cork. A fascinating feature in the new building is the re-assembly of the original overhead cash transfer system that was used in the Atkins Hardware Store in the Market Square. The annex to the church houses the Heritage Centre run by Dunmanway Historical Association.

For a breather and a picnic afterward discover Dunmanway's lovely lakeside park opposite St. Patrick's Church with its Fairy Garden. You make friends with the swan family and ducks who also appreciate this peaceful enclave overlooking the aptly named Chapel Lake.

West Cork is a place apart with many creatives who have settled here attracted by its beauty, creative vibe and unique ambiance. Come to Dunmanway from August 12/14th to see this artistic creativity showcased in Sam Maguire's Hometown.
