Last year Dunmanway Community Council responded to the challenge of Lockdown by having a self guided arts tour through the town featuring some of the great talent from local artists and creative's. It turned out to be a great success making the town an open air art gallery and turning the spotlight on the diverse talent we have in Dunmanway due to the electric mix of natives and those who have chosen to settle here and added creativity and talent to the West Cork community.
It's all about art in Dunmanway on 14/15 August so come along to the home town of Sam Maguire and this atmospheric traditional town at the centre of West Cork to enjoy a gentle perambulation, stimulating art and some lovely historic sites. Swing by the charming market town of Dunmanway in the heart of West Cork where a Walking Arts Tour - featuring local artists - is taking place. This self guided and free tour and activities is showing off pieces in various locations throughout the town including in the beautifully restored Atkins Hall, the historic St. Mary's Church where Sam Maguire is buried, the newly opened Art Gallery, the lovely town library as well as many window displays.
These are the events and venues where Irish Artists will showcase their work throughout Dunmanway town.

Atkins Hall was the Methodist Church which was built in 1790 and has been beautifully restored by the Atkins family as an art and music venue. John Wesley preached in Dunmanway on his three visits to West Cork from 1750 - 1762 and Methodist communities in North America in Rochester New York, Wisconsin and Percy Township, Northumberland County, Ontario were founded by emigrants from West Cork. A fascinating feature in the new building is the re-assembly of the original overhead cash transfer system that was used in the Atkins Hardware Store in the Market Square. The annex to the church houses the Heritage Centre run by Dunmanway Historical Association.
For a breather and a picnic afterward discover Dunmanway's lovely lakeside park opposite St. Patrick's Church with its Fairy Garden. You make friends with the swan family and ducks who also appreciate this peaceful enclave overlooking the aptly named Chapel Lake.
