WO Media & Publishing wish all of our advertisers, customers and the community of #WestCork a Merry Christmas surrounded by close friends and family. Beannachtaí na Nollag agus Athbhliain faoi mhaise duit.

Like the ancient Chinese saying we seem condemned to live in "interesting times." as many months after it impacted Ireland in February 2020 Covid is stiff affecting West Cork which is particularly exposed due to its large hospitality sector and seasonal economy.

Sectors in a National survey identified as particularly affected include, construction, wholesale and retail, accommodation and food services, arts, entertainment and recreation services, childcare, quarrying and mining, and hair, beauty and wellbeing services. With over 70,000 businesses operating in these sectors nationally, the country has a COVID-19 Exposure Rate of 46%.

We at WO Media like all in the tourism and retail sectors have pivoted our business towards an online offering to support West Cork and Irish Food businesses in these difficult times. This pivot continues with the launch of our new food website www.theirishfoodie.ie which will highlight the wonderful food and producers on our Island.

West Cork is undoubtedly the best place in Ireland to have one epic foodie experience: the region is home to two of the world’s newest Michelin starred restaurants (Mews, Baltimore and The Chestnut, Ballydehob); was voted Ireland’s No.1 Foodie Destination and is home to Ireland’s largest food festival and some of the best local markets in Ireland. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! West Cork is home to more artisan food producers than the rest of Ireland put together and more stunning views that you can shake a stick up – river deep, mountain high; ocean views, island living and rugged pastoral beauty. Add to this some genuine one-of-a-kind experiences of the non-foodie kind, (Mizen Head, Fastnet Rock or Dursey Island Cable Car), and pretty soon you realise that is a special part of the world!

We are there as businesses reopen and readapt to a changing world and our new website will be highlighting the developing and changing food scene as food trucks, outdoor dining and changing life and work patterns become the new normal.

From all at WO Media enjoy the festive season safely and stay in touch with what is happening on our new digital offerings.

With even more feeling than normal we wish you a safe and prosperous New Year in 2022.
