Rebel Wheelers Sports Club has received a donation raised by the Imperial Hotel

Cork’s Grande Dame The Imperial Hotel on Cork’s South Mall is giving back to the local community by donating €5,000 to Rebel Wheelers Multi Sports Club. Riding high from a recent visit by the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins the multi award winning hotel was delighted to host more VIP guests as several young wheelchair athletes and committee members from the club enjoyed the hospitality of the hotel before being presented with the donation.

Newly part of the family run Louis Fitzgerald Group, the Imperial Hotel has an ongoing #becausewecare commitment to sustainable business practice, overseen by their Green Team, which along with a lengthy list of eco and sustainability goals also includes giving back to the valued local community through fundraising for worthy causes.

To raise the €5,000, activities undertaken by the hotel team include taking part in the Cork City Marathon, participation in Roll With Rebel Wheelers fundraising event, and featuring an invisible cocktail on the menus. Proceeds will be put to good use by the club who are constantly fundraising for new sports equipment, different styles of wheelchairs required for rugby and basketball which also need to be maintained or replaced as the athletes grow older.

Commenting on the fundraising, Jazz Glennon, Marketing Manager and member of the hotel’s Green Team, explains “Rebel Wheelers is a fantastic Cork organisation that we are proud to be partnered with. We love that they empower young people with a physical disability to enjoy sports. We are privileged to have such a positive relationship with the members and volunteers involved in the club and hope our donation to Rebel Wheelers will go some way to expressing our appreciation of all the fantastic work they do”.
