Clonakilty is known as “The Beach Centre” owing to its close proximity to wonderful beaches. Just a short drive from Clonakilty lies the stunning Inchydoney Beach. This is a fabulous sandy beach to which visitors flock in the summer months. It is ideal for swimming and the beach has its own surf school. There is ample parking but the beach does get very busy in the high season.
Inchydoney or Inchydoney Island (from Irish: Inse Duine) is a small island, connected to the mainland by two causeways. It has a Blue Flag beach status, with two beaches, one either side of the Virgin Mary headland.
Inchydoney is fabulous out of season as well. It is an ideal spot to enjoy a brisk walk in the winter while watching the Atlantic breakers crash into the shore.
