Ireland’s only Model Railway and Village in the multi award winning town of Clonakilty is a fantastic resource for young and old alike. A visit to the Model Village is both fascinating, reflecting the history of the West Cork Railway and the towns it served but with fun things to do, such as steering the remote control boats or a road train trip through Clonakilty. Families have been enthralled by their visit to the Model
Village over the years, where a warm welcome is assured.
The Model Village is a fully scaled, handmade model of the historic West Cork Railway line with fully operational, miniature trains and the towns that the railway accommodated during the 1940s.
Handcrafted model buildings and figurines reflect how people lived and worked in days of yore. See open air market days, couples getting married, children playing in the school yard and many other experiences from days long gone, all intricately created in miniature by hand.
Follow the model trains as they navigate West Cork, steer the remote control boats, try the mini diggers or play in the colourful outdoor play area or take the road train for a trip around Clonakilty. The Model Village was officially opened in 1994 by the then President Mary Robinson. From humble beginnings, the Model Village has expanded into the dynamic experience it is today and has attracted thousands of visitors from all parts of the globe. It will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2024.
After an interesting sojourn through the Model Railway Village, the Village Cafe serves a selection of teas, coffee and snacks.
The Model Village is wheelchair accessible and there is a large parking area.
