Leap village (in Irish – Leím Ui Dhonnabháin or An Leím) is a delightful West Cork village on the busy N71 secondary road, it is situated at the north end of Glandore Harbour and like Glandore village is in the parish of Kilmacabea.
The Irish name for the village translates into O’Donovan’s Leap and is reputedly from the story of a chieftain O’Donovan escaping from the pursuing English soldiers by jumping across a ravine on the Western side of the village.
The busy village has a post office, a fast food outlet and a village shop with garage forecourt. Leap has some good bars. The Leap Inn serves food all year round. The Harbour Bar has great coffee, it often has live music in the bar and is a great venue for private parties and celebrations. Connolly’s of Leap is a renowned music venue with a cult following who travel for miles for the bands. Over the summer months Connolly’s serves great food.
Top Tips:
Make sure to visit the renowned Scarecrow Festival which always takes place Halloween week.
For the more energetic take a walk through Myross Wood which is a beautiful stretch of woodland and pasture along Leap harbour. The whole track is just shy of 10km with an elevation gain of approx 286m. This tranquil setting showcases nature at its best.
