Description
Timoleague (from the Irish – Tigh Molaige meaning house of Mologa) is a delightful village, located along Ireland’s southern coast between Clonakilty and Kinsale and is on the highly acclaimed Wild Atlantic Way.
St. Mologa was reputed to have brought the skills of beekeeping and honey production to Ireland. Honey making is still evident in the area.
The colourful village is both scenic and friendly. The landscape is dominated by the ruins of the old 13th century abbey which is perched high and overlooks the water.
Timoleague is an ideal base to explore the West Cork region from and is a centre for many outdoor activities such as surfing, fishing, sailing and walking to name but a few.
The village has several social amenities. It is home to the renowned Monks Lane Bar & Restaurant, which is nestled in the shadow of the old abbey and the logo depicts the abbey’s passageways.
Charlie Madden’s Bar is a firm favourite, it has a great atmosphere and craic, it also sells decent food.
For those who enjoy camping, caravaning and motor homes, Sexton’s Caravan Park is a short drive from the village on the Clonakilty Road.
Top Tips:
Visit The Timoleague Harvest Festival which takes place every August. The streets of the village are alive with music, events and street food.
Take a walk along the route of the old railway line from Timoleague to Courtmacsherry. This has been beautifully restored and follows the water’s edge.
